How the Stretched Bar LCD Calculator works
Enter the LCD panel's active image width and height, then provide its native horizontal and vertical resolution. The calculator estimates the aspect ratio, diagonal size, pixel density and pixel pitch. Optional project fields help organize the requirements for a custom stretched bar LCD inquiry.
Calculation formulas
Aspect ratio = Horizontal resolution : Vertical resolution (simplified)
Diagonal (inches) = √(Active width² + Active height²) ÷ 25.4
PPI = √(Horizontal pixels² + Vertical pixels²) ÷ Diagonal (inches)
Pixel pitch (mm) = 25.4 ÷ PPI
Important engineering considerations
- Active area vs. outline: Active dimensions describe the image area, not the complete LCD module or housing dimensions.
- Native resolution: Use the LCD panel's native pixel resolution. A compatible video input resolution does not necessarily equal the panel's native resolution.
- Custom aspect ratios: Stretched bar LCDs can be designed for application-specific formats. Aspect ratio alone does not confirm controller timing or interface compatibility.
- Final validation: Confirm the panel drawing, signal timing, connector pinout, brightness, thermal design and operating conditions with the display supplier.
