This module is a precision-cut ("stretched") panel derived from a standard-size TFT glass, purpose-built for bar-format applications such as shelf-edge displays, kiosk signage strips, vending/gas-terminal indicators, and instrument-panel bars in industrial equipment.
2. Engineering Feasibility — Cutting Process
Customers evaluating a custom bar-format cut naturally ask how the mother glass is processed and whether functional circuitry is at risk. Our standard workflow addresses this directly:
Cutting method selection: For straight-edge, rectangular bar cuts we default to mechanical scribe-and-break (wheel cutting) for cost efficiency on standard tolerances (±0.3mm typical). For tighter tolerances, curved edges, or cuts running close to the active array, we switch to ultra-fast laser cutting (UV/picosecond laser), which minimizes heat-affected zone and micro-crack propagation. The recommendation is made per-drawing, not assumed — send us your target dimensions and we'll specify which process applies.
Gate/Source & TFT array clearance: Every custom-cut proposal starts with a DFM (Design-for-Manufacturability) review against the mother-glass layout to confirm the cut line does not intersect active Gate/Source traces or the TFT array. To run this review we typically need:
Target cut dimensions with tolerance (±) and datum reference
Mechanical drawing (DWG/DXF/STEP) showing mounting holes, bezel, or housing interface
Preferred display orientation and viewing direction
Any keep-out zones required by your enclosure design
Edge quality standard: Post-cut edges are inspected against an internal standard for edge chipping, micro-crack length, and flatness (typically controlled within tens of microns); panels outside tolerance are rejected before assembly.
3. Reliability & Edge Sealing
Cutting a panel from its original size creates a new, unsealed glass edge — this is the question every serious industrial buyer asks first.
Sealing process: Cut edges receive a secondary sealing process (UV-cure dispensing / edge sealant application) to restore moisture and liquid-crystal leakage protection at the new edge. This is applied and cured under controlled conditions before final module assembly, not as an afterthought.
Reliability testing: Cut-and-sealed modules are qualified against the same environmental battery as our standard product line, scaled to consumer-grade or industrial-grade requirements depending on your application:

High/low temperature cycling (thermal shock)
Mechanical drop / structural shock testing We can share test reports and pass/fail benchmark data from comparable cut-panel programs on request — this is normally provided during the DFM review stage, before you commit to tooling.
Optical performance at the sealed edge: Known failure modes for cut panels are light leakage and Mura (color shift / non-uniformity) near the seal line. Our process controls dispensing width and cure profile specifically to keep the active viewing area free of these effects; edge inspection is part of standard outgoing QC, not a sampling-only check.
