Stretched Bar LCD — OEM/ODM Partnership Brief

Market Segment Analysis & Manufacturing Capability — For Brand Owners, Integrators & Project Buyers

Reference platform: Custom Stretched Bar LCD, exemplified by Model SG3763S01‑1 (37.6", 1920×540, 700nits)Manufacturer: Shenzhen Hantu Jiashi Technology Co., Ltd. (HITULCD) — Shenzhen, China, est. 2014

1. Why Stretched Bar Displays Need an OEM/ODM Partner, Not Just a Panel Supplier

Ultra-wide bar-format LCDs (aspect ratios from ~3.5:1 up to 8:1+) are almost never "off-the-shelf." They are cut from standard-generation glass to fit a specific mechanical envelope — a kiosk bezel, a fuel dispenser header, a bus stanchion, a shelf-edge strip. That means the buyer isn't just sourcing a screen; they're sourcing cutting engineering, edge-sealing reliability, and mechanical/electrical integration as a package. This is where an OEM/ODM manufacturing relationship — rather than a component distributor — determines whether a project succeeds.

2. Target Market & Customer Segment Analysis

SegmentTypical BuyerCore ApplicationWhat They Need From an OEM/ODM Partner
Smart RetailRetail fixture integrators, shelf-display brands, POS/digital signage OEMsShelf-edge price/promo strips, floor information bars, checkout-counter displaysSlim depth, high brightness for lit environments, fast prototyping for seasonal fixture refreshes, low MOQ for pilot store rollouts
TransportationBus/rail OEMs, fleet electronics integrators, PIS (Passenger Information System) suppliersBus stanchion/overhead passenger information bars, platform displaysWide operating temperature range, vibration/shock resistance, long-format aspect ratio to fit narrow overhead housings, CE/FCC compliance for transit tenders
Medical EquipmentMedical device OEMs, diagnostic/bedside equipment manufacturersStatus/vital-sign strip displays, equipment control panel barsReliability documentation (burn-in, environmental test data), consistent long-term supply (avoiding panel EOL risk), regulatory-traceable component sourcing
Outdoor AdvertisingDigital signage integrators, out-of-home (OOH) media hardware suppliersBuilding-mounted or floor-to-ceiling advertising bars, storefront window stripsHigh brightness/sunlight readability, sealed edges for outdoor humidity/dust, custom sizing per architectural opening
Industrial LCD / AutomationMachine builders, panel PC / HMI integrators, automation OEMsControl-panel status bars, machine-embedded HMI stripsNarrow bezel-to-glass tolerance for panel cut-outs, wide temperature range (-10~70°C typical), long product lifecycle (5+ years) support
Gas Station TerminalsFuel dispenser manufacturers, forecourt equipment OEMsPrice/promo display bars on dispensers, payment terminal screensIP-rated sealing compatibility, vibration resistance, high brightness for outdoor canopy lighting, explosion-adjacent certification support (CE/RoHS baseline)

Common thread across all six segments: every buyer is integrating the display into a larger branded product — they need a manufacturing partner who can absorb mechanical/electrical customization and hand back a drop-in, tested subassembly, not a raw panel requiring further in-house engineering.

3. What "OEM/ODM" Means in Practice for This Product Line

OEM (Build-to-Print)

You provide the mechanical/electrical spec (or an existing panel to be re-cut); we manufacture to your drawing.

  • Custom outline cutting (mechanical wheel or ultra-fast laser, selected per tolerance/geometry)

  • Custom brightness / backlight assembly (WLED, est. 50K hrs)

  • Interface conversion (LVDS panel → HDMI/VGA control board, as shown on SG3763S01‑1)

  • Custom cable length, connector type, and mounting bracket integration

  • Branding: custom bezel color, logo silk-screen, packaging with your brand

ODM (Co-Design)

You bring the application requirement; our engineering team proposes the panel selection, cutting plan, and control-board configuration.

  • Aspect ratio / resolution selection against your enclosure envelope

  • DFM (Design-for-Manufacture) review of Gate/Source routing clearance before cutting

  • Reliability test plan aligned to your industry (Double‑85, thermal shock, drop test)

  • Touch-panel integration option for interactive bar displays

  • Full documentation package: datasheet, test report, compliance certificates, for your own product registration

6. Talk to Engineering, Not Sales

For OEM/ODM programs, we route new inquiries directly to the engineering team for the feasibility review — this is where project risk (tolerance, circuit clearance, sealing method) actually gets resolved, before any quotation is issued.

To start a program, please share:

  1. Target application/industry segment (from the table above, or describe your use case)

  2. Target dimensions, or an existing panel to re-cut

  3. Mounting/mechanical drawing (DXF/DWG) if available

  4. Annual volume forecast

  5. Any mandatory certification or test standard for your target market

This module is representative of our custom stretched-bar cutting platform — the same engineering process applies to other panel generations and aspect ratios (ultra-wide bar displays for kiosks, gas pumps, elevators, vending, and industrial control panels).

2. Technical Process & Feasibility

How we evaluate a custom cutting request

Every custom bar-display project starts with a joint feasibility review before any cutting is scheduled. To assess feasibility accurately, our engineering team typically requests:

  • Target outline dimensions and tolerance requirements

  • Original panel model / datasheet (if a standard panel is being re-cut)

  • Mounting/bezel drawing or mechanical interface drawing (DXF/DWG preferred)

  • Required viewing area (A.A.) and any keep-out zones

Cutting method

We select between mechanical wheel scribing and ultra-fast laser cutting based on glass thickness, target tolerance, and edge-quality requirements:

  • Mechanical wheel cutting — cost-efficient for standard tolerances (±0.3–0.5 mm typ.), suited to straight-line cuts on thin substrate glass such as this 0.5+0.5 mm cell.

  • Ultra-fast laser cutting — used when tighter tolerance (±0.1 mm or better), irregular contours, or minimal micro-crack propagation is required. This is our recommended method for panels intended for sealed/outdoor or vibration-prone applications.

The final recommendation is confirmed per project after reviewing the target dimensions against the panel's active array layout.

Circuit & routing clearance

Before confirming a cut line, we run a layout check against the Gate/Source driving lines and TFT array boundary to ensure the new cut edge does not intersect active circuitry or COF bonding pads. Where a requested dimension would cut into the array or driver routing, we will flag this during the DFM (Design-for-Manufacture) review and propose the nearest feasible alternative dimension, or a driver IC re-routing option for larger custom orders.

Edge quality control

Post-cut glass edges are inspected against internal QC limits for:

  • Edge chipping / flatness (visual + magnified inspection)

  • Micro-crack length and depth

  • Edge squareness relative to the display's active area

Panels outside tolerance are rejected before sealing, so no defective edges advance to the next process step.

3. Reliability & Edge-Sealing Assurance

Sealing process

After cutting, exposed glass edges are re-sealed using UV-cure edge dispensing (glue dotting/dispensing) to restore moisture and liquid-crystal leakage protection at the cut line. Dispensing parameters (bead width, cure time, UV intensity) are adjusted per glass thickness and cut geometry to ensure full edge coverage without intruding into the active area.

Reliability testing

Cut-and-sealed modules can be qualified against standard consumer-grade or industrial-grade reliability protocols, depending on the target application. Typical test batteries include:

  • Double 85 (85°C / 85% RH) high-temperature/humidity soak

  • High/low temperature storage & operating cycling

  • Thermal shock (cold-hot cycling)

  • Structural drop test (per packaging/mounting configuration)

Test benchmarks and pass/fail criteria are shared per project on request, referencing prior cutting programs of similar glass thickness and cut length — please specify your target industry standard (e.g., IEC, MIL-STD, or an internal OEM spec) so we can align the test plan and provide relevant historical data.

Optical performance after sealing

A properly sealed cut edge should show no visible light leakage or Mura (color shift/non-uniformity) at the border under normal viewing conditions. This is verified during final optical inspection under darkroom lighting before the module ships. Any samples showing edge Mura are re-worked or scrapped rather than shipped.

4. Cost, Yield & Lead Time

NRE & first-sample cost

Custom cutting programs carry a one-time NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) fee covering tooling/fixture setup, DFM review, and initial cutting-parameter qualification. The exact NRE amount depends on the source panel, target dimension, and cutting method (mechanical vs. laser), and is quoted after the feasibility review.

  • First sample (proto) run: typically 20 pcs

  • Standard sample lead time: 2–3 weeks for stock/near-standard configurations; 4–6 weeks for fully custom cutting + sealing programs, consistent with our published lead times.

Volume production expectations

  • Expected yield for qualified custom-cut programs is generally in line with standard LCM production once the cutting/sealing process is validated at sample stage; exact yield is confirmed after the first pilot batch, as it depends on cut length, glass thickness, and tolerance class.

  • MOQ: Standard-spec modules start at MOQ 1 unit for evaluation; custom brightness, cutting, or bezel configurations typically require a higher MOQ, confirmed at the time of quotation.

  • Monthly capacity: 12,000+ units/month across our production lines, supporting prototype, small-batch, and volume programs.
