What "OEM/ODM" Actually Means Here

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer): You provide the spec — size, brightness, interface, mechanical drawing, branding — and we manufacture to it.

ODM (Original Design Manufacturer): You bring the application requirement (e.g., "38-inch sunlight-readable bar display for a bus stop kiosk, must survive −20°C to 60°C storage"), and our engineering team designs the panel configuration, backlight, and interface to meet it, then manufactures it.

Most projects land somewhere between the two — customers arrive with a target size or an existing enclosure and need our engineering team to fill in the rest. That's normal, and it's where our customization service adds the most value.

38.2" Custom-Cut LCD Bar Module (P380IVN01.0) — Technical & Engineering Brief

For overseas engineers, procurement managers, and project owners evaluating custom-cut stretched bar displays

This module is produced from a 42" mother panel using an 8/15 cutting ratio (not a native bar panel). Because cut-panel products carry different engineering and reliability risks than standard off-the-shelf panels, this brief answers the questions our overseas partners most commonly raise before issuing a PO — organized around process feasibility, reliability/sealing, and cost/yield/lead time.


1. Cutting Process & Engineering Feasibility

Cutting methodFor this class of size and aspect ratio (930.24 × 276.16 mm active area, 64:19), we default to mechanical wheel cutting for standard tolerance requests, and move to ultra-fast laser cutting when the customer requires tighter edge tolerance, minimal micro-cracking, or a cut line close to the active display boundary. The recommended method is confirmed case-by-case once we see your exact dimension and tolerance requirements — we do not fix one method for all projects.

Routing and circuit clearanceEvery custom cut is checked against the mother panel's Gate/Source driver lines and TFT array layout before we confirm feasibility. This is the single most important design-review step, because a cut line that intersects active circuit traces will cause dead zones or signal failure — not a cosmetic issue.

To run this check, we ask customers to provide, at the RFQ stage:

  • Target cut dimensions (W × H) and position relative to the panel's reference corner

  • Required tolerance (± mm) on each edge

  • Any mechanical constraints (mounting holes, bezel overlap, connector clearance)

  • Intended orientation/rotation of the final image

We return a feasibility drawing confirming whether the requested cut line clears all active circuitry before any tooling or sample work begins.

Edge finishingPost-cut edges go through grinding/polishing to control flatness and suppress micro-cracks that could propagate under thermal or mechanical stress. Standard finishing targets are shared with you at quotation stage and can be tightened for higher-vibration or outdoor applications.


2. Reliability & Edge Sealing

Sealing processCut edges are treated with a secondary sealing process (typically UV-cured edge sealant, with alternative resin sealants available depending on the application) to prevent liquid crystal leakage and moisture ingress at the cut line. This is a mandatory step for every custom-cut panel we ship — not an optional upgrade.

Reliability testingDepending on your end application (consumer-grade vs. industrial-grade), cut modules from comparable projects have been validated against:

  • Double 85 test (85°C / 85% RH, high-temp/high-humidity soak)

  • High/low temperature cycling (thermal shock)

  • Structural drop testing

We can share representative test data from comparable stretched-bar cutting programs on request — actual pass/fail criteria and sample size are agreed with you at project kickoff based on your target certification level.

Optical performance at the cut edgeThe main optical risks after cutting and edge-sealing are light leakage along the sealed border and localized Mura (color shift/non-uniformity) near the cut line. Both are inspected under production QC and are part of the acceptance criteria we define with you before mass production — including agreed inspection distance/angle and acceptable leakage width, since "no visible defect" needs a measurable definition to be enforceable in a PO.


3. Cost, Yield & Lead Time

NRE and first sampleEngineering costs for a new custom-cut program (feasibility review, cutting jig/fixture setup, sealing process qualification) are quoted per project once we have your dimensions and tolerance spec — they are not fixed, because they scale with how close the cut line sits to active circuitry and the tolerance required. First article samples (~20 pcs) typically follow feasibility sign-off; exact lead time is confirmed at quotation and depends on mother panel availability and cutting method.
