Note on scope: As shipped, this SKU is a bare open-cell panel. Backlight assembly, driver/control board, and connector protocol are engineered per project and confirmed during technical review — this is standard practice for non-standard bar-format panels and is addressed in Section 2 below.
2. Technical Feasibility & Engineering Process
Buyers sourcing a non-standard aspect-ratio panel typically need engineering alignment before committing to tooling. The points below reflect the technical review process our engineering team runs for stretched-bar projects.
2.1 Sizing & Cutting Method
Stretched-bar panels are produced by precision-cutting standard mother-glass to the target outline. Two processes are available depending on tolerance and volume requirements:
Mechanical wheel scribing — lower cost, suited to larger tolerance windows and higher volumes.
Ultra-fast laser cutting — tighter edge tolerance and lower micro-crack risk, recommended for panels with active display area close to the cut line.
The final recommendation depends on your target outline dimension, tolerance requirement, and the specific mother-glass layout of the base panel — this is confirmed during the DFM (Design for Manufacturing) review, not before.
2.2 Circuit & Trace Clearance
Before confirming feasibility, our engineering team maps the cut line against the source panel's Gate/Source trace routing and TFT array boundary to confirm no active circuit is intersected.
To start this review, please provide:
Target outline drawing (with datum references) or a marked-up drawing on the base panel's existing mechanical spec
Required active area (A.A.) dimensions and position tolerance
Any mounting/bezel constraints (cutouts, mounting holes, connector exit direction)
This confirms cuttability and flags any required active-area compromise before sampling begins.
2.3 Edge Finishing
Cut edges are ground and polished to remove chipping risk and control micro-crack propagation.
Edge flatness and micro-crack acceptance criteria are defined per project based on the panel's mechanical loading in your enclosure (handheld/impact-prone applications warrant tighter criteria than static embedded displays). These are documented in the quotation package.
3. Reliability & Edge Sealing
Sealing process: Cut edges are re-sealed with a secondary sealing process (UV-cure dispensed sealant at the cut edge) to restore moisture and liquid-crystal leakage protection lost when the original factory edge seal is cut through.
Reliability testing: Post-cut modules can be run through standard environmental and mechanical reliability testing — high/low temperature & humidity cycling, thermal shock, and structural drop testing — scoped to consumer-grade or industrial-grade acceptance levels depending on your application. Test protocol and pass/fail criteria are defined jointly with your team and documented in the DVT report; ask your account contact for reference data from comparable completed cutting projects.
Optical performance at the seal: A known risk area for cut-and-sealed panels is edge light leakage or color shift (Mura) near the sealed border. This is evaluated during first-sample review under your specified viewing conditions, and backlight/optical film layout is adjusted accordingly if leakage is observed.
