OEM / ODM Custom-Cut TFT LCD Solutions

Any size. Any aspect ratio. One partner from cutting to complete display module.

Your product defines the space. We build the display to fit it. From a 7" shelf-edge strip to a 50"+ ultra-wide signage bar, we take a proven TFT panel, cut it to your exact format, then seal, backlight, drive, bond and test it as a ready-to-integrate module.

Achievable sizes depend on the internal layout of the base panel (driver/routing zones). Every project starts with a free feasibility review, so you know what is possible before you commit.

Why Standard Panels Fall Short

Product designers and engineers keep running into the same problems:

  • The housing, dashboard, shelf rail or control console is long and narrow, and no catalogue panel matches it.

  • Compromising on a smaller 16:9 panel wastes visible area and looks unbalanced.

  • A new-panel-fab project needs very high volumes, long lead times and heavy NRE, which most projects cannot justify.

  • Managing a cutting vendor, a backlight vendor, a driver-board vendor and a bonding vendor separately creates quality gaps and blame-shifting.

Our answer: custom-cut displays delivered as one integrated, single-source solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you cut a panel to any size?We can deliver a very wide range of sizes and aspect ratios. The final limit is set by the base panel's internal routing and driver areas, which is why we run a free feasibility review first. If one panel does not allow your format, we look for another base panel or propose a nearby resolution.

What is the minimum order quantity?MOQ depends on the project. Prototype and pilot quantities are available, and mass production typically starts from several hundred pieces. Contact us with your forecast.

Do you sign an NDA?Yes. We sign an NDA before receiving your drawings and keep all design data confidential.

Who owns the design? For OEM projects, your drawings and specifications remain your property. For ODM projects, ownership and exclusivity terms are agreed in the contract.

Can you also supply the driver board, touch panel and enclosure?Yes. We can supply the complete display subassembly, or only the parts you need.

How do you ensure the cut edge is reliable?Edge grinding, controlled secondary sealing, light-shielding and full inspection are applied to each panel, and the module is validated against a defined reliability plan.

Do you provide samples?Yes. Engineering samples (typically 20 pcs) are produced after drawing approval and NRE confirmation.

18.9" Custom Aspect Ratio Stretched Bar TFT LCD Module

Custom-cut TFT LCD for ultra-wide, space-constrained OEM designs. Engineered, sealed and validated for industrial-grade reliability.

Applications: Retail shelf-edge displays · Digital signage · Vehicle & transit information · Industrial HMI · Medical & instrumentation panels · Gaming marquee & kiosk

1. Product Overview

Standard 16:9 and 4:3 panels rarely fit the housing your product actually needs. Our 18.9" Stretched Bar TFT LCD Module is produced by precision-cutting a mass-produced, mature TFT cell to your target aspect ratio, then re-sealing, re-bonding and re-testing it as a complete module. You get a full-colour, high-resolution display in a bar format without the cost and lead time of a new-panel-fab project.

Why engineers and sourcing teams choose it

  • Fits where standard panels cannot: custom width/height ratios (e.g. 16:3, 21:9, 32:9 and other bar formats) within an 18.9" diagonal class.

  • Proven base panel: built on mature, volume-produced TFT cells, so image quality and supply are stable.

  • Lower NRE than a full custom panel: no new mask set, no new fab qualification.

  • Full-module delivery: cutting, edge sealing, backlight adaptation, driver/controller board and optional touch or cover glass from a single supplier.

  • Documented process control: incoming inspection, in-process AOI, final electro-optical and reliability testing.

3. Engineering Q&A: Cutting, Reliability and Commercial Terms

The questions below are the ones our customers' engineering, quality and purchasing teams ask most often before releasing a custom-cut TFT project.

3.1 Process Feasibility and Cutting Method

Which cutting method do you recommend? The method is selected per project based on glass thickness, cut geometry and the tolerance you need.

MethodBest suited forTypical tolerance†Notes
Mechanical scribe-and-break (diamond wheel)Straight cuts, cost-sensitive volumes±0.2 mmMature, high throughput; requires edge grinding
Ultrafast laser cutting (picosecond / femtosecond)Tight tolerance, thin glass, irregular or corner-radius outlines±0.1 mmLow chipping and micro-crack density; higher unit process cost

For most straight-cut bar formats, mechanical cutting followed by edge grinding is the most cost-effective. We recommend laser cutting when the retained border is very narrow or when the outline is non-rectangular.

Will the cut line interfere with the Gate / Source routing or the TFT array? This is checked before any glass is cut. The cut line must stay outside the active area and outside the Gate/Source fan-out and driver-IC bonding region. Which edges can be cut depends on the panel's internal layout:

  • Cutting is generally feasible on the edges not carrying driver ICs / FPC (commonly the non-driver long side and short sides), provided sufficient dead-zone margin exists.

  • Cutting through the array area or into the seal-line (sealant) region is not permitted.

  • Where the target ratio requires crossing routing, we propose an alternative base panel or a re-mapped resolution.

What do we need from you for a feasibility review?

  1. Target outline drawing (DXF / DWG / STEP / PDF), including bezel and housing constraints

  2. Required active area (mm) and resolution / aspect ratio

  3. Preferred base panel model, or the application brightness / temperature requirements

  4. Interface, connector position and FPC direction

  5. Target annual volume and required certifications

In return we provide a cutting-feasibility report with the array layout overlay, the proposed cut lines, and the remaining border dimensions.

What is the edge quality standard after cutting?

ItemTypical control criterion†
Edge chipping (width)≤ 0.1 mm (edge grinding applied)
Edge chipping (depth)≤ 1/3 glass thickness
Micro-crack control100% edge inspection under magnification; no crack propagating toward the seal line
Edge finishingCNC or wheel chamfer C0.1–0.2 mm to relieve stress and improve handling safety
Dimensional tolerance±0.2 mm (mechanical) / ±0.1 mm (laser)

3.2 Sealing and Reliability

How is the cut edge sealed against moisture and liquid-crystal leakage?Cutting exposes the cell gap, so a controlled secondary sealing process is applied to every panel:

  1. Edge cleaning to remove glass particles and liquid-crystal residue.

  2. Primary edge sealing with low-moisture-permeability UV-curable epoxy / acrylic adhesive, dispensed by an automated, vision-guided dispenser.

  3. UV cure plus thermal post-cure to reach full cross-linking.

  4. Secondary protection (optional): additional moisture-barrier coating or a bezel / frame gasket for harsh-environment builds.

  5. Leak and seal inspection before backlight assembly.

Which reliability tests can the cut module pass?Cut modules are validated against the same test plan as the base module. Our standard plan follows IEC 60068-2 series methods and customer-specific criteria:

TestCondition†Duration / Cycles
High temperature storage+80 °C500 h
Low temperature storage-30 °C500 h
High temperature operation+70 °C500 h
Low temperature operation-20 °C500 h
High temperature / high humidity ("double 85")+85 °C / 85% RH, or +60 °C / 90% RH (standard class)500 h
Thermal shock-30 °C ⇄ +80 °C, 30 min dwell100 cycles
Vibration (random)IEC 60068-2-6 / -2-64Per customer profile
Mechanical shockIEC 60068-2-27Per customer profile
Drop test (packed)ISTA / IEC 60068-2-31Per packing spec
ESDIEC 61000-4-2, ±8 kV contact / ±15 kV airFunctional pass

Pass criteria: no leakage, no seal peeling, no new Mura, no line/point defects beyond spec, and electro-optical parameters within ±10% of initial values. Benchmark test data from comparable cut projects is available under NDA on request.

Note: The +85 °C / 85% RH test is applied at the industrial or wide-temperature level. Consumer-grade modules are typically qualified at +60 °C / 90% RH.

Will the cut edge cause light leakage, colour shift or Mura?Edge-zone optical defects are the main cosmetic risk of cut panels, and they are controlled at several points:

  • Black-matrix and light-shielding: black edge tape or shielding adhesive on the cut edge and a re-designed light-shielding layer to block backlight leakage.

  • Backlight redesign: a custom light guide and reflector, with LED position and count tuned for uniform luminance across the new format.

  • Stress management: edge grinding and low-stress adhesive to avoid pressure-induced Mura and colour shift.

  • Optical acceptance: full-panel inspection at black, white, grey and RGB patterns; luminance uniformity typically ≥ 80% (9-point)†.

3.3 Cost, Yield and Lead Time

What is the NRE and sampling lead time?

ItemTypical range†
NRE (tooling, cut program, backlight and fixture design, feasibility report)USD [X,XXX – XX,XXX], quoted by project complexity; may be credited against production orders above an agreed volume
Feasibility review and quotation3–5 working days
Engineering samples (20 pcs)3–5 weeks after drawing and NRE confirmation
Pilot run4–6 weeks

What yield and MOQ should we expect in mass production?

ItemTypical figure†
Expected mass-production yield (module level)95–98%, after process stabilization; lower on the first lots
Mass-production MOQ500–1,000 pcs per order (project-dependent)
Standard mass-production lead time6–8 weeks after PO and forecast
Warranty12–24 months against manufacturing defects

Yield depends on the chosen cutting method, remaining border width and format. The base-panel supply plan (buffer stock of the source cell) is agreed at the start of the project to protect lifetime supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an existing standard panel be cut to any size? Not to any size. The cut line must remain outside the active area, the array routing and the seal line, so the achievable size depends on the base panel's layout. A feasibility report confirms this before commitment.

Does cutting affect long-term reliability? When edge grinding, secondary sealing and light-shielding are done correctly, the cut module can meet the same reliability targets as the base module. We verify this with the tests listed in Section 3.2.

What files should I send for a quote? An outline drawing in DXF/DWG/STEP/PDF plus your resolution, interface and volume estimate is enough to start.

Do you offer touch and optical bonding?Yes. PCAP touch and optical bonding with anti-glare or anti-reflective cover glass are available as options.

Can you support long-term supply?Yes. We agree a base-panel buffer-stock plan and a change-notification (PCN) process at project start.
