Custom-Cut Stretched Bar LCD: Engineering FAQ for OEM Projects
For overseas engineers, procurement managers, and project owners evaluating a custom panel-cutting project with our team.
Cutting a standard TFT panel down to a custom stretched bar format is a precision process, not a simple trim. Below are the questions our overseas partners ask most often when scoping a cutting project, with the standard answers our engineering team works from. Exact figures are confirmed per project after drawing review — use this as a baseline for your technical evaluation.
1. Cutting Process & Feasibility
Which cutting method do you recommend — mechanical wheel cutting or laser cutting?
Both are used, depending on tolerance and edge-quality requirements:
Mechanical wheel (scribe-and-break) cutting — lower cost, shorter lead time, suitable for tolerances around ±0.3 mm. This is the standard method for most shelf-edge and signage projects.
Laser cutting — higher precision (tolerance down to ±0.1 mm or tighter), cleaner edge with reduced micro-chipping risk, but higher cost and longer lead time. Recommended when the cut line is close to active circuitry, when a very tight mechanical tolerance is required for the housing fit, or for small/thin panels prone to cracking under mechanical stress.
We confirm the recommended method once we have your target dimension, tolerance requirement, and source panel model.
Will the cut interfere with the Gate/Source driver lines or the TFT array area?
This is evaluated case-by-case against the source panel's internal layout (COF/TAB bonding position, Gate/Source IC placement, and active array boundary). Cutting too close to the driver ICs or bonding area can damage signal lines and is avoided in the design phase.
What drawings or parameters do you need from us to confirm feasibility?
To run a feasibility check, please provide:
Target outer dimension and active display area (with tolerance)
Preferred aspect ratio / resolution, or the space constraint it needs to fit
Mounting method and enclosure drawing (DWG/DXF/PDF), if the display will be embedded
Target brightness, viewing angle, and interface (VGA/HDMI/LVDS/etc.)
Order volume and target unit cost, if available
With this, our engineering team can identify a compatible source panel and confirm whether the target dimension avoids the driver circuitry and bonding area.
What is the edge flatness and micro-crack control standard after cutting?
Cut edges are inspected for chipping and micro-cracks under magnification as part of in-process quality control. Edge flatness and chip depth are controlled to standard glass-processing tolerances (typically chip depth held within a fraction of the panel's glass thickness). We can share our internal edge-inspection criteria and sample photos on request.
2. Reliability & Edge Sealing
How do you seal the cut edge to prevent liquid crystal leakage and moisture ingress?
The cut edge is treated with a secondary sealing process — typically UV-curable epoxy dispensed along the cut edge, sometimes combined with a frame/gasket seal depending on the application's environmental exposure. This re-establishes a moisture and LC-leakage barrier at the trimmed edge, which is the main reliability risk introduced by cutting.
Can the cut TFT module pass standard reliability testing?
Yes — cut modules are qualified against the same category of reliability tests as standard modules, at either consumer-grade or industrial-grade levels depending on the target application. Typical reference tests include:
| Test | Typical Condition (Reference) |
|---|---|
| High-temp / high-humidity ("double 85") | 85°C / 85% RH, 96–240 hrs |
| High-temperature storage | 60–70°C, 96 hrs |
| Low-temperature storage | -20 to -30°C, 96 hrs |
| Thermal shock | -20°C ↔ 60°C, 30–100 cycles |
| Vibration | Per IEC 60068-2-6 or equivalent |
| Mechanical drop | 0.5–1.0 m, per packaging/product category |
We can share test reports from comparable prior cutting projects for reference; exact pass/fail criteria and sample size depend on the target industry (consumer vs. industrial vs. transportation-grade).
Does the sealed edge cause light leakage or color shift (Mura) near the border?
A properly controlled cut-and-seal process should not introduce visible light leakage or Mura at the edge under normal viewing conditions. Risk increases if the cut line is too close to the active area or if the sealing process is inconsistent — this is why edge clearance and dispensing process control are part of the feasibility review before cutting begins. Sample units are checked under both bright and dark-room conditions before approval.
3. Cost, Yield & Lead Time
What is the NRE cost to start a custom cutting project, and how long is the first sample run?
NRE (tooling/fixture setup + process qualification) cost depends on the source panel, cutting method, and whether new driver-board tooling is required — this is quoted per project after drawing review. As a general planning reference:
First sample lead time (≈20 pcs): typically 3–4 weeks from drawing confirmation, covering source panel procurement, cutting, sealing, driver-board matching, and testing.
Laser-cut or tight-tolerance projects, or projects requiring a new AD board design, may extend this timeline.
What yield should we expect at mass production, and what is the MOQ?
Typical mass-production yield for a qualified/mature cutting process is in the 85–95% range, depending on cut complexity, panel size, and tolerance requirements. Yield is generally lower during the initial qualification run and improves as the process stabilizes.
MOQ for custom-cut projects is typically in the 50–200 pcs range per SKU, depending on panel size and cutting complexity — smaller or highly customized cuts sit toward the higher end. Please contact our sales engineering team for an MOQ specific to your target dimension and volume.

22.3" Stretched Bar Open Frame LCD Display
Ultra-Wide Aspect Ratio | Open Frame | Custom-Cut TFT Module for Shelf-Edge, Signage & Embedded Applications
A 22.3" open frame stretched bar LCD engineered for integrators and OEMs who need a compact, ultra-wide display for narrow installation spaces — shelf edges, elevator strips, vehicle interiors, kiosk fascias, and architectural signage recesses. Supplied as a bare, VESA-ready open frame module for direct embedding into your own enclosure, cabinet, or housing.
Overview
Standard 16:9 monitors don't fit narrow, elongated spaces. The 22.3" stretched bar display solves this by using a panel with a dramatically elongated aspect ratio, giving system integrators a wide horizontal viewing area within a low-profile vertical footprint. It is manufactured using precision panel-cutting technology from a standard TFT mother glass, followed by re-sealing, edge treatment, and driver-board integration — a proven process used across our stretched bar display range (8" to 88").
This model is offered as an open frame unit: no bezel, no housing — the LCD cell, backlight, and AD (driver) board only, ready for your team to integrate into a custom chassis, kiosk, or cabinet.
Key Features
Ultra-wide, elongated aspect ratio — optimized for narrow, linear mounting spaces
Open frame / kit format — VESA-pattern mounting holes for direct chassis integration
LED backlight — long operating life, low power draw, flicker-free dimming
Wide viewing angle — 170°(H) / 160°(V) or better, suitable for public-facing installs
High-brightness options available for semi-outdoor or window-facing installations
Multiple video interface options — VGA / HDMI / DVI / LVDS available on the AD board
Custom cutting service — dimensions, resolution, and aspect ratio can be tailored to your project drawing
Industrial-duty design — suitable for 24/7 continuous operation
