Why Custom-Cut Bar Displays?

Standard displays follow standard sizes. Your product doesn't.

Retail shelves, transit ceilings, elevator fascias, control-panel headers, vending fronts and EV chargers each need a different length and height. Forcing a 16:9 panel into these spaces means wasted bezel, extra brackets, or a compromised design. A stretched bar display gives you a full-brightness, full-resolution image at exactly the aspect ratio your industrial design calls for.

Typical projects we support

  • Shelf-edge and gondola-rail pricing strips

  • Bus, metro, rail and airport passenger-information bars

  • Elevator, kiosk, ATM and fuel-dispenser top displays

  • HMI status bars and machine-control panel headers

  • Refrigerated-case and cooler-door information strips

  • Window, ceiling-hung and wall-mounted digital signage bars

  • EV charging stations and vehicle interior strips

Any Bar Size — Within Physical Limits, Confirmed Up Front

We cut from a wide range of base panels, so almost any bar dimension your design requires can be engineered. Every size is validated in a feasibility review before you commit to samples.

Base panel platformCuttable axisTypical use

Other lengths, heights and resolutions are available. Final limits depend on the source panel's driver placement and routing layout — we tell you the achievable range at the start, not after tooling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you really supply any bar size?We can engineer almost any custom length and height by cutting from the right base panel. Limits depend on the source panel's driver and routing layout. We confirm the achievable range in a free feasibility review before any commitment.

What do you need to start?Target dimensions and tolerance, an enclosure drawing (STEP / DXF / PDF), brightness, interface, operating environment, touch or cover-glass needs, and estimated volume.

Is ODM design support available, or only cutting? Both. We can supply a cut module only, or a complete solution including driver board, brackets, bonding and packaging.

Can you handle small trial quantities?Yes. We build 20-pcs engineering samples before the 50-pcs custom-cut MOQ.

How do you avoid leakage and edge light leakage after cutting?Every cut edge is sealed with UV-curable sealant and light-shielded. The backlight is trimmed to match the new size. Reliability is validated under IEC 60068 test conditions.

Do you support NDA and private label?Yes. Panel-level layout data is shared under NDA, and we support private-label packaging and branding.

Cuttable Platform: How It Works

The 27.7" bar is produced from a large-format cell that can be trimmed on one axis to a custom dimension. The cut line is placed outside the active area and clear of the driver and routing zones. The cut edge is then re-sealed, optically masked and validated.

Engineering Feasibility Review (Before Quotation)

Every custom cut goes through a design review so there are no surprises at sampling.

We check:

  • Whether the requested size interferes with Gate / Source routing, fan-out, shorting bars or the TFT array area

  • The distance from the cut line to the seal line and active area (minimum safe margin)

  • Driver IC / FPC / COF position and backlight LED bar position after cutting

  • Mechanical fit: bezel, bracket, cover glass and connector location

  • Optical stack: polarizer size, backlight (LGP, films, reflector) trimmed to match

To start, please send:

  1. Target active area and outline dimensions, with tolerance

  2. Enclosure or 2D/3D mechanical drawing (STEP / DXF / PDF)

  3. Required brightness, interface and operating temperature range

  4. Touch / cover glass / bonding requirements (if any)

  5. Estimated annual volume and target price range

We return a feasibility report and approval drawing (with cut-line position) for your sign-off before any sample build. Panel-level layout data is shared under NDA.

Edge Sealing and Reliability

A cut cell exposes a new edge, so sealing quality determines long-term reliability. HITULCD applies a controlled edge-sealing process to prevent liquid-crystal leakage and moisture ingress.

Sealing process

  • Automated dispensing of UV-curable, low-moisture-permeability edge sealant along the cut edge

  • UV cure followed by thermal post-cure for full cross-linking

  • Optional secondary barrier (additional sealant layer) for high-humidity or outdoor-adjacent applications

  • 100 % visual inspection of seal continuity; sampling inspection under microscope

  • Black edge masking to block stray light (see Optical Performance)

Pass criteria: no LC leakage, no seal delamination or moisture bubbles, no new Mura, no functional failure, brightness change within ±10 %, and the module remains within mechanical tolerance.

Project-specific test reports are provided together with engineering samples. Consumer-, commercial- or industrial-grade test levels can be selected to match your product class.

Optical Performance at the Cut Edge

Light leakage, color shift and edge Mura are the main risks in cut modules. We manage them at design level:

  • Backlight matched to the cut size – LGP, reflector and optical films are trimmed and aligned to the new outline

  • Edge light-shield – black light-blocking tape/frame around the cut edge and seal to stop leakage

  • Optimized non-active margin – a controlled border between the cut edge and the active area absorbs edge effects

  • Uniformity control – brightness uniformity ≥ 80 % (9-point method, typical); edge Mura evaluated against a limit-sample standard

  • Optional optical bonding – OCA/LOCA cover glass improves contrast, sunlight readability and edge appearance

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cutting method do you recommend — mechanical or laser?

Mechanical wheel cutting suits standard tolerances (±0.20 mm) and cost-sensitive volume. Ultrafast laser cutting gives tighter tolerance (±0.10 mm) with lower chipping. We recommend one after reviewing your drawing, tolerance and volume.

Will the new size interfere with Gate/Source routing or the TFT array?

We place the cut line outside the active area and clear of the driver and routing zones. Feasibility is confirmed with a layout review before any sample is built. We need your target dimensions, enclosure drawing and key electrical/optical requirements.

What is the glass edge quality after cutting?

Typical chipping is ≤ 0.20 mm (wheel) or ≤ 0.10 mm (laser), with no chips reaching the seal or active area. Edges are inspected under microscope, and edge grinding or chamfering is optional.

How is the cut edge sealed against leakage and moisture?

By automated dispensing of UV-curable low-moisture-permeability sealant, followed by UV and thermal post-cure. An optional secondary barrier is available for high-humidity applications.

Can the cut module pass industrial reliability tests?

Our standard plan follows the IEC 60068 series: high/low-temperature storage, damp heat (up to 85 °C / 85 % RH), thermal shock, vibration, shock and packaged drop. Test reports are provided per project.

Is edge light leakage or color shift a concern?

It is controlled by trimming the backlight to size, applying black edge light-shield material and reserving an optimized non-active margin. Edge appearance is checked against a limit-sample standard.

What are NRE, sample time and MOQ?

NRE is quoted per project and may be credited against a volume order. 20 pcs of engineering samples typically take 2–3 weeks after drawing approval. MOQ for custom-cut modules is 50 pcs.

What yield can I expect in mass production?

We target ≥ 95 % first-pass yield at module level, tracked lot by lot, with the final figure reviewed after pilot build.

Do you offer OEM/ODM and private label?

Yes. Brightness, interface, driver board, brackets, logo and packaging can all be customized.
