1. Why Buyers Choose Custom-Cut Bar Displays
Standard 16:9 and 4:3 panels force product designers to compromise. Bar displays remove that compromise: the screen is made to fit the product, not the other way around.
| Market Need | Why a Standard Panel Falls Short | What a Custom Bar LCD Delivers |
|---|---|---|
| Retail shelf-edge & gondola displays | Fixed shelf heights, wasted screen area | Height cut to the exact shelf-edge dimension |
| Public transport (bus, tram, rail, metro) | Narrow ceiling and window-header spaces | Ultra-wide, high-brightness route and passenger-information bars |
| Vending, kiosks & self-service | Limited front-panel real estate | Header or side-strip screens that match the cabinet |
| Digital signage & window displays | Sunlight and unusual mounting formats | High-brightness bars in non-standard ratios |
| Elevator, lobby & hospitality | Space-constrained, design-driven installs | Slim, ultra-narrow-bezel bars that blend into architecture |
| Industrial HMI & control desks | Panel-mount cut-outs and status-bar layouts | Panoramic status bars sized to the control panel |
The result: a cleaner product design, higher screen utilisation, and a differentiated end product for your brand.
2. What We Can Cut: Size Capability
We do not limit you to a fixed catalog. Our engineering team selects the most suitable mother panel and cuts it to your specified width and height, within the physical limits of the panel structure. Every request receives a feasibility answer within 3 working days.

1. Product Overview
The 28.6-inch stretched bar LCD module is built from a proven large-format TFT-LCD panel that has been precision-cut to an ultra-wide 32:9 aspect ratio. This format fits applications where a standard 16:9 display simply does not: shelf-edge displays, bus and rail passenger-information systems, vending machine headers, elevator and lobby signage, control-desk status bars, and panoramic industrial HMIs.
Unlike a standard catalog panel, this module is offered in a cuttable configuration. If your enclosure, shelf, or industrial design requires a non-standard width or height, our engineering team can trim the panel to your target dimensions while maintaining optical performance, sealing integrity, and long-term reliability.
Every project starts with a free engineering feasibility review (see Section 4), so you know the cut is safe, sealed and manufacturable before you commit to tooling or samples.

4. Custom Cutting Service: Engineering Capability
Cutting a finished TFT-LCD panel is a precision process, not simply a matter of trimming glass. Below is how we address the questions our engineering and procurement customers ask most.
4.1 Cutting Method, Dimensions and Tolerance
We select the process based on your target dimension, edge quality requirement and volume:
| Method | Best For | Typical Dimensional Tolerance | Typical Edge Quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical scribing (diamond wheel) & break | Straight-line cuts, cost-sensitive and higher-volume projects | ±0.20 mm | Chipping ≤ 0.2 mm |
| Ultrafast (picosecond) laser cutting | Tight tolerances, minimal edge damage, shaped cuts (e.g., rounded corners), thin-glass panels | ±0.10 mm | Chipping ≤ 0.1 mm, minimal micro-cracks |
Our engineers recommend the method during the feasibility review. Typical cut increments and minimum remaining panel size depend on the source panel structure (see 4.2).
4.2 Circuit Avoidance & Feasibility Review (Gate / Source / TFT Array)
The cut line must never cross or come too close to the active area, frame sealant, or gate/source fan-out wiring. Before any cutting, we perform a cut-line feasibility check against the original panel design:
Confirm the keep-out zone around the TFT array, seal line and GOA/gate driver area
Confirm the target dimension does not interfere with source/gate lines or driver IC/FPC bonding regions
Confirm backlight (LED bar position, light guide plate) can be resized without brightness or uniformity loss
Confirm mechanical fit, mounting holes and bezel design
To start the review, please send us:
Target outline size and tolerance (2D DXF/PDF or 3D STEP file preferred)
Which edge(s) are to be cut and required remaining active-area position
Required brightness, interface and operating temperature range
Enclosure/bezel concept and mounting method
Target annual volume and application
We will return: a marked-up panel drawing showing the permitted cut zone, a recommended cutting method, and a feasibility conclusion, typically within 3 working days.
4.3 Edge Quality: Flatness and Micro-Crack Control
Post-cut edge inspection under microscope (typically 50×–100×)
Edge chipping and micro-crack criteria defined per approved drawing (typical acceptance: no crack extending toward the seal line; chipping ≤ 0.2 mm mechanical / ≤ 0.1 mm laser)
Optional edge grinding/chamfering to relieve stress and improve handling safety
100% visual inspection of cut edges; sampling-based cross-section checks for lot approval
5. Sealing & Reliability Assurance
5.1 Edge Sealing Process
After cutting, exposed cell edges are re-sealed to prevent liquid crystal leakage and moisture ingress:
UV-curable acrylic/epoxy edge sealant applied by automated dispensing for controlled, repeatable bead geometry
Optional secondary protective layer (moisture-barrier silicone or equivalent) for high-humidity or vehicle environments
Polarizer edge treatment and light-shield tape at the cut border
100% inspection of seal coverage; leakage check after cure and after reliability testing
5.2 Reliability Testing
Cut modules are validated against standard industrial-grade test conditions. Typical test benchmarks applied to cut-panel projects:
| Test | Typical Condition | Typical Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| High-temperature / high-humidity (damp heat) | 60 °C / 90% RH, 240–500 h; or 85 °C / 85% RH (per project requirement) | No leakage, no display defects, no seal degradation |
| High-temperature storage | 70–80 °C, 240 h | No functional or cosmetic change |
| Low-temperature storage | −20 to −30 °C, 240 h | No functional or cosmetic change |
| Thermal shock | −30 °C ↔ +80 °C, 30 min dwell, 100 cycles | No cracking, delamination or seal failure |
| Vibration | 10–500 Hz, per IEC 60068-2-6 / ISTA profile | No functional failure |
| Mechanical shock / drop (packaged) | ISTA 2A or customer-defined | No damage |
| Long-term operation (power-on aging) | 50 °C, 500 h | Stable optical performance |
Test reports from comparable cutting projects can be shared under NDA upon request. For new dimensions, we recommend running your project-specific test plan during the sample stage.
5.3 Optical Performance After Cutting
Light leakage / edge Mura: controlled through backlight LED-bar and light-guide plate re-trimming, edge light-shielding tape and black-edge treatment
Color shift: verified against original panel white-point and uniformity limits
Luminance uniformity: typically ≥ 75% (9-point measurement) for standard configuration; customer-specific targets can be agreed on the approved specification
100% optical inspection of edges under dark-room conditions before shipment

10. Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Which cutting method do you recommend: mechanical or laser? For straight cuts and cost-driven volumes, mechanical scribing is usually sufficient (±0.20 mm). For tighter tolerance, cleaner edges or shaped contours, ultrafast laser cutting is recommended (±0.10 mm). We will advise during the feasibility review.
Q2. Will my target size interfere with the gate/source lines or the TFT array? Not if it stays within the permitted cut zone. We overlay your target outline on the original panel design and confirm the safe cut line before any sample is built. Please send your 2D/3D drawing and the edge(s) you need trimmed.
Q3. How do you control edge micro-cracks?By optimizing cutting parameters, optional edge grinding/chamfering, microscope inspection, and post-cut stress relief. Acceptance criteria are defined and signed off on the approved drawing.
Q4. How is the cut edge sealed against moisture and leakage? With automated UV-cure edge sealing, optionally followed by a secondary moisture-barrier layer. Every project is validated through damp-heat and thermal-shock testing.
Q5. Can cut modules pass industrial reliability tests?Yes. Typical validation includes damp-heat (60 °C/90% RH or 85 °C/85% RH), thermal shock, high/low-temperature storage, vibration and packaged drop testing. Benchmark data from similar projects is available under NDA.
