Your Product Doesn't Have a 16:9 Screen. Why Should Your Display?
Standard LCD panels come in a handful of fixed sizes. Modern product designs don't. Shelf-edge labels, transit information strips, elevator headers, dashboard clusters, control-room status bars, vending and kiosk fronts, smart mirrors, medical carts and industrial HMIs all need long, narrow, or oddly proportioned screens.
The usual options each have a cost:
| Option | The problem |
|---|---|
| Force a standard 16:9 panel into the design | Wasted space, oversized enclosure, higher BOM cost |
| Use an off-the-shelf stretched display | Limited size list, brand-locked interfaces, long-term supply risk |
| Develop a fully custom panel | Multi-million-dollar tooling, 12+ months, very high MOQ |
| Cut a standard mass-production panel to your size | Low NRE, fast sampling, proven panel quality, flexible volume |
Custom-cut bar LCDs give you the exact form factor with mature, mass-production panel economics.

Engineering Confidence for Cut Panels
We know the technical concerns behind every cut-panel inquiry. Here is how we address them.
Cutting method and tolerance: scribe-wheel for cost-efficient standard bars; ultra-fast laser for tight tolerance, narrow borders and complex shapes. Standard tolerance ±0.2 mm; tighter on request, subject to feasibility.
Circuit protection: the cut line is always kept clear of the active area and Gate/Source fan-out. You will receive a marked-up cut-line drawing during feasibility review.
Edge quality: ground edges, chip control inspected under magnification, acceptance criteria agreed in writing before sampling.
Sealing: automated UV-curable edge sealing plus polarizer edge protection, followed by leak and visual inspection.
Reliability: validation plan aligned to IEC 60068-2 methods, typically including high/low temperature operation and storage, damp heat (60 °C/90 % RH; 85 °C/85 % RH extended-grade on request), thermal shock and packaged vibration/drop. Reports from comparable projects are shared under NDA.
Optical quality: edge Mura and light leakage controlled through backlight redesign, low-stress sealing and 100 % optical inspection.

FAQ
Can you really make any size?We can evaluate any size. Whether it's achievable depends on the mother panel's layout, so we identify the best candidate panel and confirm feasibility in writing before charging NRE.
What do you need to start?Target active area and outline (drawing or STEP file), brightness, interface, touch/cover-glass needs, operating environment, and estimated annual volume.
Do you supply the bare panel or the complete display?Either. We can deliver a bare cut LCM, an LCM with driver board, or a complete module or housed display.
Will my design be protected?Yes. We sign an NDA before receiving drawings, and customer-specific tooling and designs are not offered to third parties.
Can you support low volumes?Yes. Samples from 1 pc, and flexible pilot batches before mass production.
How long will the panel be available?Tell us your product lifecycle. We plan panel sourcing accordingly and offer stock-holding and last-time-buy arrangements.

Custom Cutting Technology – Engineering Q&A
Stretched bar displays are made by cutting a standard TFT-LCD panel to a non-standard size. Our engineering team handles this process in-house and supports customers from feasibility study through mass production. Below are the questions we are asked most often by engineers and project managers.
1. Process & Feasibility Assessment
Which cutting method do you use?We select the method per project based on glass thickness, target dimensions and edge-quality requirements:
| Method | Best suited for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanical scribe-wheel cutting | Standard bar sizes, cost-sensitive volume projects | Proven, high throughput; followed by edge grinding/polishing |
| Ultra-fast (picosecond) laser cutting | Tight tolerances, narrow borders, irregular shapes | Minimal chipping and heat-affected zone; higher cost per panel |
Standard cut tolerance is ±0.2 mm (tighter tolerance available on request, subject to feasibility).
Will the cut line interfere with Gate/Source routing or the TFT array? The cut line must always stay outside the active area and clear of the Gate/Source fan-out and driver-IC bonding regions. During feasibility review we compare your target size against the original panel's layout. To confirm feasibility, please provide:
Target active area and outline dimensions (with tolerance)
Mechanical drawing (2D DWG/PDF or 3D STEP) including bezel and mounting
Desired resolution and aspect ratio
Target brightness, interface (LVDS / eDP / HDMI / VGA) and touch requirements
Application environment (temperature, humidity, sunlight exposure)
Estimated annual volume and project timeline
We return a feasibility report and recommended cut line drawing within 3–5 working days.
What edge quality is achieved?Cut edges are ground and inspected under magnification. Typical acceptance targets: no chipping that reaches the seal line, no visible micro-cracks propagating into the active area, and edge chip size controlled to a fraction of the glass thickness. Detailed edge inspection criteria are included in the project's inspection standard (IQC/OQC) and agreed before sample release.
2. Reliability & Sealing
How is the cut edge sealed against moisture and liquid leakage? After cutting, the exposed cell edge is sealed with a UV-curable edge sealant, dispensed by automated equipment and then cured under controlled UV energy. Polarizer edges are protected to prevent moisture ingress and delamination. The module is then leak-tested and visually inspected under a microscope.
Which reliability tests are applied?Cut modules are validated against a customer-agreed test plan aligned with IEC 60068-2 series methods. A typical validation profile:
| Test | Typical Condition |
|---|---|
| High temperature operation | 50 °C, 240 h |
| Low temperature operation | 0 °C, 240 h |
| High temp. / high humidity (damp heat) | 60 °C / 90 % RH, 240 h (85 °C/85 % RH available for extended-grade validation) |
| High / low temperature storage | 70 °C and –20 °C, 240 h each |
| Thermal shock | –20 °C ↔ 70 °C, 30 min dwell, 100 cycles |
| Vibration (packaged) | Random, ISTA / IEC 60068-2-64 profile |
| Drop (packaged) | ISTA 1A/2A, per packaging design |
Test reports from similar cut-panel projects are available under NDA, and we run project-specific reliability builds on your samples before mass production release.
Is light leakage or Mura a risk after edge sealing? It is a known risk area for cut panels, and we control it at three points: (1) backlight and bezel design matched to the new cut size, (2) low-stress edge-sealing dispensing to avoid cell-gap distortion, and (3) 100 % optical inspection (uniformity, edge Mura, light leakage) on the production line. Edge-zone uniformity criteria are agreed with the customer at sample approval.
3. Cost, Yield & Lead Time
| Topic | Typical Terms ² |
|---|---|
| NRE / tooling | Quoted per project based on size, method and mechanical/backlight modification. Waived or refunded against volume commitment in many cases |
| Feasibility review | 3–5 working days |
| Sample lead time (20 pcs) | 3–5 weeks after drawing & NRE confirmation |
| Mass-production lead time | 6–8 weeks after PO and sample approval |
| Expected production yield | ≥ 95 % (process-controlled, mature bar sizes); project-specific target set after pilot run |
| MOQ | Sample from 1 pc · Mass production from 100–500 pcs, depending on customization level |
| Warranty | 12 months standard; extended terms available for contract volumes |
