The Problem With Standard Displays

Catalog LCDs come in a limited set of sizes and ratios: 16:9, 16:10, 4:3. But modern equipment isn't designed that way. If you are a design engineer or product manager, you may have faced:

  • A front panel with a narrow window where no catalog display fits

  • Compromised industrial design to accommodate a standard aspect ratio

  • Wasted screen area hidden behind a bezel, paid for but never used

  • Very high tooling cost or long lead times for a fully custom TFT glass

  • MOQ walls from panel makers who only build custom cells at tens of thousands of pieces

A cut bar display solves this without the cost and time of a new glass fab.

Our Solution: Cut-to-Fit Bar LCDs

We start from proven, mass-produced TFT panels and re-engineer them into the exact width and height your design requires.

How the Process Works

  1. Requirement Review. You send the outline drawing, target active area, interface, brightness, environment, and volume. We reply within 24 hours.

  2. Feasibility Study. Parent-panel selection, cut-line check against gate/source routing and the TFT array, and cutting-method recommendation (mechanical scribe or ultra-fast laser).

  3. Design Proposal. A 2D/3D drawing, specification sheet, and clear NRE/price quotation for your approval.

  4. Engineering Samples. Cut, edge-sealed with UV sealant, backlight-adapted, and tested. Typical first sample lead time is 3–4 weeks after drawing approval.

  5. Validation. Reliability testing (high/low temperature, damp heat, thermal shock, vibration, drop) with report on request.

  6. Pilot & Mass Production. Frozen process, controlled yield, 100 % final inspection, and full traceability.

Built for Reliability

Cutting a display is not just cutting glass. It is a controlled process.

  • Precision cutting. Mechanical scribe-and-break or picosecond laser, chosen per project. Typical tolerance ±0.1 to ±0.2 mm.

  • Edge quality control. Chipping and micro-crack inspection under magnification, with grinding or polishing where needed.

  • Moisture and leakage protection. UV-cure edge sealing with monitored dispensing volume and curing energy.

  • Optical integrity. Edge light-shield design and black sealing to control light leakage, color shift and Mura.

  • Validated performance. Tested to industrial-grade conditions, including damp heat, thermal shock, vibration and drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you really cut any size?We can cut a very wide range of sizes and ratios. The final limit depends on the parent panel's active-area layout, driver IC and routing position, and the cut-edge structure. We confirm feasibility in writing before any commitment.

Will a cut display be as reliable as a standard one? With proper edge sealing and validation, cut modules can pass industrial-grade environmental tests. We share the test plan and results for your project.

Can I get a fully custom resolution?Yes, within the constraints of the parent panel's pixel grid. We can also design the timing and scaling on the driver board.

Can you support long-term supply?Yes. We choose parent panels with a stable lifecycle and can arrange a last-time-buy or an alternative panel migration plan.

Do you sign NDAs?Yes, before any drawing exchange.

Custom Cutting & Engineering FAQ

Custom-cut and stretched panels raise different questions than standard catalog displays. Below are the answers our engineering team gives most often to design engineers and procurement managers.

1. Process Feasibility & Cutting

Which cutting method do you use?Cutting method is selected per project based on the target dimensions, panel structure, and tolerance:

  • Mechanical scribe-and-break (diamond wheel): cost-effective for straight cuts in volume production.

  • Ultra-fast (picosecond) laser cutting: used where tighter tolerance, cleaner edges, or reduced chipping is required.

What tolerances can be achieved?Typical cut-edge tolerance is ±0.2 mm (mechanical) and ±0.1 mm (laser). Tighter values can be evaluated on request.

Will the cut affect the Gate / Source traces or the TFT array?Cut lines are designed to pass outside the active area and outside the routing of gate/source lines, keeping a safety margin from the seal line. Feasibility is confirmed before any sample is built.

What do you need from us for a feasibility review?

  • Target outline drawing (DXF / DWG / STEP / PDF) with tolerances

  • Required active-area size, resolution and aspect ratio

  • Preferred interface (LVDS / eDP / MIPI / HDMI board)

  • Brightness, temperature range, and environmental requirements

  • Estimated annual volume and target price

What edge quality is guaranteed?Glass edges are inspected for chipping and micro-cracks under magnification. Typical acceptance: chip size ≤ 0.2 mm, no cracks extending toward the active area, edge roughness controlled by post-cut grinding/polishing where required.

2. Reliability & Edge Sealing

How are cut edges sealed against moisture and liquid-crystal leakage? After cutting, the exposed cell edge is sealed with UV-curable sealant, precisely dispensed and cured, forming a moisture barrier. Dispensing volume and curing energy are process-controlled and audited.

Which reliability tests can the module pass?Cut modules are validated against industrial-grade test conditions. Typical validation plan:

TestConditionDuration / Cycles
High temperature operation50 °C240 hrs
Low temperature operation0 °C240 hrs
High temperature storage70 °C240 hrs
Low temperature storage-20 °C240 hrs
Damp heat (85/85 style)60 °C / 90 % RH (85 °C / 85 % RH available for sealing validation)240 hrs
Thermal shock-20 °C ↔ 70 °C, 30 min dwell100 cycles
Vibration10–500 Hz, 1.5 G, 3 axes1 hr / axis
Package drop80 cm (per packaging spec)1 corner, 3 edges, 6 faces

Test reports for comparable custom-cut projects are available under NDA.

Is there a risk of light leakage or Mura at the cut edge?Edge light leakage and color shift are controlled through edge light-shield tape/frame design, black sealing, and backlight re-alignment. Every sample is inspected on a full-white, gray-level, and black pattern before shipment.

3. Cost, Yield & Lead Time

NRE and toolingNRE depends on cutting complexity, backlight redesign, and tooling. It is quoted after drawing review and is refundable against a defined order quantity for qualified projects.

Sample lead timeTypically 3–4 weeks for the first 20 pcs after drawing confirmation. Standard HT373HBM stock samples are available faster.

Mass-production yieldTypical cutting yield in mass production is ≥ 95 % once the process is frozen after pilot builds.

MOQ

  • Standard HT373HBM: low MOQ, samples available

  • Custom-cut versions: MOQ discussed per project (typically from 100–500 pcs)

Mass-production lead time: 6–8 weeks after PO and approved samples.
