The Problem We Solve
Product designers and project managers keep running into the same wall:
The enclosure, shelf edge, vehicle cut-out or control panel needs a specific width and height, such as 16:3, 8:1 or even 12:1, and no off-the-shelf panel matches.
Buying a full-size panel and masking it wastes cost, depth and power.
Custom panel development from the cell maker means very high NRE and MOQs of thousands of pieces.
Past cut-panel suppliers delivered edge light leakage, moisture failures and inconsistent yield.
Our answer: a repeatable, engineering-led cutting process that starts from high-volume mainstream panels, so you get a custom size without custom-panel cost and lead time, and with edge quality and reliability you can verify.
What We Can Cut
We work from mainstream open-cell and panel platforms, from small formats to large signage panels. A cut size is feasible when the target active area sits within the parent panel and clear of its routing and driver areas. In practice that covers an extremely wide range of bar formats.
| Format Example | Typical Aspect Ratio | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2 cut | ≈ 16:4.5 | Wide signage, dashboards |
| 1/3 cut | 16:3 | Shelf-edge, transit information, status bars (e.g., our HT485HBM) |
| 1/4 cut | ≈ 16:2.25 | Narrow information strips |
| 1/5 – 1/6 cut | ≈ 16:1.8 – 16:1.5 | Slim bars, elevator, control-room tickers |
| Custom ratio | Up to ~ 12:1 and beyond, subject to review | Unique architectural and vehicle installations |
Not on the list? Send us your target size. Because the final cut depends on the parent panel's layout, we confirm the exact feasible dimensions in a free engineering review.
Typical size classes we have supplied: 19" to 58" diagonal bar displays, including 48.5" 1920×360 / 3840×720, 49.5" 3840×1080 and 50.8" 3840×1440 stretched bars. Other sizes are available on request.
How Custom Cutting Works
Step 1 — Feasibility Review (Free, within 24 hours)
Send your target outline, active area, resolution, brightness and interface needs. We check them against the parent panel's cell design to confirm that the cut line clears the Gate/Source fan-out, TFT array and driver IC / FPC bonding areas. You get a clear answer on feasibility, recommended cutting method and any trade-offs.
Step 2 — Cutting Method Selection
Mechanical wheel cutting. Proven, cost-effective and the usual choice for standard cut lines and volume programs.
Ultra-fast laser cutting. For tighter edge quality, narrow borders or non-standard contours, chosen when the design needs it.
Step 3 — Edge Finishing & Sealing
Cut edges are inspected for chipping, cracks and flatness, ground and finished as needed, then protected with a secondary seal, typically UV-cure sealant applied by controlled dispensing. This blocks moisture ingress and liquid-crystal leakage. Light-shielding treatment at the edge limits light leakage and color shift.
Step 4 — Driver, Backlight & Interface Build
We match the cut panel with the right timing controller and backlight, then deliver it as:
Bare LCM with LVDS (e.g., 51-pin) or eDP, for your own board or SoC
Display kit with HDMI / VGA / DP control board, OSD and 12 V power
Custom interface by project: DVI, MIPI, USB-C, or Android / Linux media boards
Step 5 — Mechanical Integration
Bezel, frame, bracket, cover glass, optical bonding, anti-glare or anti-reflective treatment, heat management and cable routing designed around your housing.
Step 6 — Validation & Sampling
Prototype units go through optical inspection (edge light leakage, color shift, Mura), electrical checks and a reliability plan agreed with you. Samples are delivered with inspection records.
Step 7 — Mass Production
Production runs with in-line testing, outgoing inspection and traceable lot records, with repeat orders on a stable BOM.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you really make any size?We can make any size that fits within the parent panel and keeps the cut line clear of the panel's routing and driver areas. In most cases we find a workable solution, and when we can't, we say so in the review and suggest the closest alternative, rather than promising something that will fail in production.
Will a cut panel be reliable enough for 24/7 use?Yes, when the cut, edge sealing and thermal design are done properly. Our process includes secondary edge sealing and a reference reliability plan with high-humidity, thermal-shock and vibration tests, and we match the plan to your application.
What about edge light leakage and color shift? We control them with the cut-line design, edge shielding and 100% optical inspection of finished modules.
Is there a minimum order?1 unit for standard specifications. Custom projects are confirmed at quotation, and samples are available before volume orders.

Custom Cutting, Sealing & Reliability: Engineering FAQ
Stretched bar displays are made by cutting standard panels. We know engineers and purchasing teams want to understand that process before approving it. These are the questions we hear most, answered directly.
1. Cutting Method, Tolerance and Feasibility
Which cutting method do you use?We select the method per project. Mechanical wheel cutting is the proven choice for standard cuts and for volume. Ultra-fast laser cutting can be used where a tighter edge quality, a non-standard contour or a narrow border is required. The recommended method is confirmed during the engineering review.
What tolerances can I expect?Typical cut-dimension tolerance is ±0.2 mm for standard cuts; tighter values can be reviewed per project. Module outline and mounting tolerances are specified on the drawing you approve before production.
Will the cut interfere with Gate/Source routing or the TFT array? This is checked before any cut is made. Each custom size goes through a feasibility review against the panel's cell design to confirm that the cut line stays clear of the Gate/Source fan-out and the active TFT array, and that driver IC and FPC bonding areas remain available.
What do you need from us for the feasibility review?
Target outline and active-area dimensions with tolerances
Mechanical drawing or 3D model (STEP/DXF), if available
Required resolution, brightness and interface
Mounting method, bezel or cover-glass details
Operating environment and expected volume
What edge quality is achieved?Edges are inspected for chipping, cracks and flatness after cutting, and ground and finished as required. Microcrack control is verified in incoming and final inspection, with edge inspection records available on request.
2. Edge Sealing and Reliability
How is the cut edge sealed? After cutting, the exposed cell edge is protected with a secondary sealing process, normally a UV-cure sealant applied by controlled dispensing, to block moisture ingress and prevent liquid-crystal leakage or edge degradation. Alternative sealant materials can be discussed for harsher environments.
Which reliability tests apply? We use the following reference plan for cut modules, and can adapt it to your specification:
| Test | Reference Standard / Condition |
|---|---|
| High-temperature / high-humidity (85 °C / 85% RH) | IEC 60068-2-78, up to 500 h (conditions adjusted to the panel's rated limits) |
| High-temperature operation and storage | Per rated range |
| Low-temperature operation and storage | Per rated range |
| Thermal shock | IEC 60068-2-14, −20 °C ⇄ +70 °C cycling |
| Vibration | IEC 60068-2-6 |
| Mechanical shock / packaged drop | IEC 60068-2-27 / ISTA-style transit test |
| Backlight burn-in | 24/7 continuous running at nominal conditions |
Test reports for comparable cut projects can be shared under NDA. Tell us the target environment, whether consumer, industrial or transport, and we will propose a matching test plan.
Is light leakage or Mura a risk at the cut edge? This is a known risk with any cut panel, and we manage it through (1) the cut-line design review, (2) edge sealing and light-shielding tape or bezel design, and (3) 100% optical inspection of the finished module for edge light leakage, color shift and Mura.
3. Cost, Samples, Yield and MOQ
Is there an NRE fee?
Standard HT485HBM (48.5", 1/3 cut): no NRE. Order directly.
New or modified cut sizes: a one-time engineering charge may apply for tooling, fixtures and validation. It depends on the project, is stated in the quotation, and is often credited against volume orders.
How long do samples take?
Standard version: 2–3 weeks.
Custom first samples (e.g., 20 pcs): 4–6 weeks from drawing approval.
What yield can I expect in volume?Yield depends on cut geometry and edge requirements. We set a target yield during the feasibility stage and agree an acceptance standard (AQL) in the quotation, so there is a clear basis for costing.
What is the MOQ?
Standard specification: 1 unit.
Custom cut, brightness or bezel: MOQ confirmed at quotation.
Samples: available before bulk orders.
